Well, Aqua Squad is coming to an end, and it has been an amazing experience. I learned a lot about San Angelo's water problems, like how our population uses 91 MILLION GALLONS per week! Additionaly, Mesquite trees, which were brought here 250, 000 years ago by buffalo migrating to and fro from Canada to Mexico (But didn't grow until the 19th century, when the cattle drive happened and overgrazing occurred.), have a population of 130 MILLION in San Angelo alone. In fact, mesquite trees in San Angelo make up 30% of mesquite trees in Texas! Aqua Squad has taught me so much, and I am going to conserve more water at home and educate the public about water conservation. As a water ambassador for San Angelo, I encourage everyone to get on board and make some changes. Turn the water off while you are brushing your teeth and hands, turning it back on only when you need to rinse or wash the soap off. Encourage xeriscaping, invest in a rainwater harvesting system or a grey water system. Make use of water that would otherwise go to waste. Additionally, be aware of trash, pet waste, fertilizer overuse, motor oils and other pollutants that can make their way into our water if not picked up or recycled properly. If we will all do our part now we might have a better chance at a bright and healthy future!
